Kairi is one of the main characters in the Kingdom Hearts series, and one of the three main playable heroes in Kingdom Hearts III. Sora and Riku's longtime friend, Kairi is a Princess of Heart and Riku's Keyblade Apprentice. When Riku is kidnapped and brainwashed by Darth Vader, Kairi must learn to fend for herself as she joins Sora to rescue her master. However, she must also deal with the even greater evil, Master Xehanort, who desires to extract her heart and use it to create a new X-blade.

To be completed

Kairi's personality is fundamentally the same as in prior games; soft, sweet, not afraid to speak her mind, and slightly dependent. However, after Riku is kidnapped, she tries to become a stronger and more independent person, and trains herself with the Keyblade. Despite this, she is still not as hardy as she wishes to be, and often has her moments of vulnerability and softness.

At the start of Kingdom Hearts III, Kairi retains her appearance from Kingdom Hearts II; shoulder-length auburn hair, indigo eyes, and pink mini-dress.

After Riku is kidnapped, Kairi dons a Black Coat and hides her facial features to avoid recognition from Darth Vader when on board The Death Star (due to her ability to travel through Dark Corridors without any negative effects, this is simply for disguise). When in this disguise, most characters are unable to determine her gender and identity, with both Sora and Vader referring to the cloaked Kairi as "he". Furthermore, she wields the Oathkeeper Keyblade, given to her by Yen Sid, rather than her signature Destiny's Embrace, so as to further conceal her identity.

When Kairi reveals herself to Sora in Radiant Garden and joins his party, it is revealed that she changed her hairstyle and outfit, as an attempt to appear stronger and more mature. Kairi's hair is now in a cropped bob, similar to Xion (although slightly longer than in the first Kingdom Hearts). Kairi also now wears an outfit slightly reminiscent of her prior outfits as well as Aqua's outfit, with a white sleveless top with crossed purple belts, detatched sleeves, and a short purple skirt with a studded belt. She also now wears tall black boots, similar to Aqua.

Kairi retains her abilities as a Princess of Heart from the previous games. However, after Riku is kidnapped, she becomes much more adept with the Keyblade, and teaches herself various magical abilities such as Flood, Tornado and Holy. She becomes an increasingly powerful user of light; however, as a Princess of Heart, she is unable to wield darkness despite being able to sense it.

Kairi starts out with the Destiny's Embrace Keyblade.

As a bossEdit

Main article: Kairi (Boss)

Kairi, in her Black Coat disguise, appears as a sub-boss for Sora, Donald, Goofy and Luke Skywalker during the first visit to the Death Star. She uses "Vector to the Heavens", the theme for Xion's Final Form in 358/2 Days.
